Bowling to Dhoni was a 'surreal moment': Chakravarthy

ABU DHABI: Kolkata Knight Riders‘ (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy says that bowling to MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL) was a surreal moment for him. To top it up, he went on to dismiss the Chennai Super Kings‘ (CSK) skipper in a game-changing moment.
KKR defeated CSK by 10 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. CSK were set a target of 168 to win and the MS Dhoni-led side found itself in a comfortable position at 99/1 in the 12th over with Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu at the crease. However, both fell in quick succession. From thereon, KKR plugged the runs to turn the tables on Chennai for a 10-run win.

“I was feeling the pressure when Mahi bhai was at the crease because three years back I used to go to Chepauk and I used to watch the matches just because of Dhoni. Bowling to him was a surreal moment for me,” Chakravarthy told Rahul Tripathi in a video posted on iplt20.com.

The pitch was really flat against CSK. Mahi bhai was going really well. I just thought that if I can land the ball on a good length, I might take his wicket, thankfully I was able to execute it really well. After the match, I took a picture with Dhoni sir as well,” he added.
Defending the total, KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik introduced Sunil Narine in the 12th over, and the Caribbean spinner went on to pick the crucial wicket of Shane Watson (50) in his second over to tilt the match in favour of KKR.
And once Chakravarthy got the crucial wicket of Dhoni, CSK were not able to get any sort of momentum. Chakravarthy clean-bowled Dhoni (11) in the 17th over of the innings.

Batting first, KKR were bowled out for 167. Tripathi was the only batsman to leave a mark with his knock of 81 runs.
Tripathi came out to bat as an opener for KKR and helped his team post a total in excess of 160. Before this match, the KKR had Narine as one of the two openers.
KKR are currently at the third position in the IPL standings with six points from five matches.
